The effects of global challenges like climate change and social isolation are increasingly felt locally. Professionals are urged to address these issues by embracing human diversity in architectural practices. Relying on outdated standards leads to exclusion and segregation. An inclusive approach requires dialogue among professionals, public administration, and civil society to reshape mindsets and understand the community’s needs. The 2023 Bucharest Architecture Annual, through the UNINVITED exhibition aims to initiate this dialogue, laying the groundwork for integrating accessibility and inclusion into urban design processes.
THE UNINVITED is an AMAIS project that involves a series of installations and exhibitions through which we want to understand and challenge society’s perspective on accessibility, inclusion and disability.
This exhibition is part of the Architecture Annual 2023, focused on the theme of “Inclusive Bucharest” and it involved a series of six videos featuring interviews about the relationship with the city from various perspectives.
The installation is interactive and it is used as a research instrument. Each of the six metallic video standers also has a question with multiple answers. Each viewer can vote based on their experience, while offering us information on the architects perceived role in solving the diverse issues/situation.
