“The Inclusive Table” is a project created by AMAIS in collaboration with McCann Worldgroup Romania for Mastercard Slovenia. The initiative was launched at a Christmas market in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with the goal of addressing accessibility and inclusion in public spaces, particularly during crowded events like holiday markets.

“The Inclusive Table” is a modular installation featuring circular tables and benches designed to adapt to various user needs, including those with disabilities. The design incorporates different seating heights, options for backrests and armrests, and visual contrasts to improve accessibility. The project was more than just a piece of furniture; it served as a tool for gathering user experiences and stories related to inclusion, aiming to understand the obstacles that different communities face.

The installation is interactive, featuring inserts with messages in Latin characters, Braille, easily understood Icons and QR codes. This mosaic of human characteristics and information about the market fosters empathy among visitors and emphasizes that accessibility is not just for people with disabilities and the lack of it affects the entire community. Through the QR codes and associated websites, the table provides visitors with the opportunity to share their personal stories about inclusion or their experiences at the market, as well as their opinions on accessibility, while also learning about others’ stories regarding the diversity of human needs.

By creating a space that fosters dialogue and adapts to its users, “The Inclusive Table” challenges traditional notions of public space design and emphasizes the importance of considering diverse needs in creating truly inclusive environments. The article highlights the significance of such initiatives in promoting social inclusion and enhancing the quality of public spaces for all individuals.
